The Sunday Habit I Complained About and Now Can’t Skip

Flatlay of a journal, candle, and self-care essentials on a linen throw

For a long time I rolled my eyes at the whole “Sunday reset” thing. It looked like a performance — twelve labeled bins, a color-coded fridge, someone in perfect lighting wiping down a counter that was already clean. I told myself I wasn’t a bin-and-label kind of person. Turns out I just hadn’t found my version of it yet.

Where I Went Wrong The First Time

I tried to copy what I saw online almost exactly — the full grocery haul, the meal prep containers, the whole two-hour production. I did it twice. Both times I was exhausted by Sunday night and resentful by Tuesday. It wasn’t that resetting my space and my week was a bad idea. It was that I’d borrowed someone else’s version of it instead of building my own.

What My Version Actually Looks Like

Now it’s twenty minutes, not two hours. Laundry started, counters cleared, one thing planned for dinner so I’m not standing in front of the fridge at 6pm with nothing in mind. That’s it. It’s not photogenic and I’m usually still in whatever I slept in. But it’s the difference between starting my week already behind and starting it like I at least got a head start.
